This week started out GREAT! We were all given our i-pads Monday!! So far, we have been able to practice our spelling words on Spelling City, accessed our Raz-Kids accounts, practiced our math facts, and SO much MORE!! Please send your child to school with earbuds (headphones) A.S.A. P. We will be keeping them in our desks and using them daily. Thanks to the generosity of parents and people from our community, we have a classroom set of exercise balls! There ARE a few rules when sitting on the ball: 1. BOUNCE as needed, just not too high! 2. Sit with BOTH feet on the floor. 3. Sit up straight. Students CAN choose to sit in a chair, and some have from time to time. _http://www.gofundme.com/3xdif0 Hello All!
During my time in the classroom, I have witnessed students struggling to "sit-still" and "focus" during seat-work. A few years back, I introduced stability (exercise) balls as a chair replacement for my students. The balls allowed the students movement while learning throughout the day. They no longer had to fight the urge to sit completely still, and were be able to move and focus all at the same time! Research shows that while we sit on an exercise ball, our body has to make continuous muscular adjustments, which keep us attentive. Sitting on a ball makes a student sit up straight, which increases blood flow to the brain and all parts of the body. In recent years, I have had a set of 8-10 exercise balls to share among the students. Students loved when their names were drawn for their turn on the ball. Most of the balls have been significantly worn down and need to be replaced. I am hoping to fund a classroom set (28-30 balls) by the start of the school year. The average cost of an exercise ball is $15-$20 for high quality, durable brands. You can email me with any questions you may have at: [email protected] Thank you in advance for your support! Tracy Here is the ScreenChomp I made for the bow-tie method. Let me know if it helps. We will go over it again in class tomorrow too!
